Reconstruction of foreign education content is an integral element in reformation process of national education on the whole and it foresees its coordination with current requirements and necessities of modern schoolchildren. Introduction of profile teaching at senior school caused the differentiation for content of teaching foreign languages in accordance with base and profile levels. One of the important components of profile teaching foreign language are elective courses, which complement and extend content of profile subject, satisfy various schoolchildren’s cognitive interests that exceed the limits of selected by them profile. Today constructing content of elective courses in foreign languages for the students of senior school, as well as in other subjects, is carried out intuitional, unsystematic and not enough effectively. But on the other hand, knowledge and using technology of constructing content for elective courses will help to take off negative moments in teacher’s activity concerning the organization of mastering elective courses content in profile teaching foreign languages, which will provide achievement of high results in educational activity

Behavior Recognition for Elderly People in Large-Scale Deployment

    No full text
International audienceBehavior recognition through ambient assisted living solutions for elderly people, represents an ambitious challenge for actimetry. Numerous and versatile solutions have been deployed. However, a commercial adoption is still pending, due to scalability and acceptability constraints. Most researches in ambient assisted living appear to have an heavy design, where precise features are first selected, and hardware architecture is designed accordingly. Although it may provide interesting results, such approach leads to a lack of scalability. This is why we experimented a lighter approach for a real deployment. The complexity is shifted from hardware to software, and we aim to make meaningful informations emerge from simple and generic sensor data, in order to recognize abnormal and dangerous situations. In this paper, we will describe how to retrieve consistent informations, so that resident's behavior may be observed, and that a light and generic approach fits in large scale deployments, with acceptable cost and scalability

Uncertainty handling in semantic reasoning for accurate context understanding

International audienceContext aware systems are using various sensing technologies in order to recognize end-users situations; however these technologies are vulnerable to hardware failures, energy depletion, communication problems and multiple other issues. This generates an uncertainty about the events received from the sensors, which is translated into a confidence given to these events. This confidence is used in the context-aware reasoning through a fusion of sensor data to make more accurate decisions. In this paper, we focus on handling uncertainty in sensor-based context aware applications and we propose a method for the measurement of uncertainty based on both physical and operational behaviors of the sensors. We describe how the level of uncertainty is incorporated into different layers of a semantically driven context aware system and how it is transferred to a decision engine in order to perform more accurate decisions in ambiguous observations

In this paper reports a novel full-range vacuum sensing device, capable of exceeding the sensing range of most gauges and reducing the volume by a factor of 10. The device gauges the free decay rate of a micro-cantilever beam which provides uniform in-plane stress across the surface of the beam, and a thick square plate connected to the trapezoid beam deflected using Piezoelectric Thin-Film Pb(Zr,Ti)O3(PZT) used to determine the free decay rate of the sensing beam with respect to deflection force and vacuum pressure. In the beginning, the paddle cantilever vibrated by the piezoelectric actuators, and then the decay rate of the deflected beam in vacuum environment was measured by piezoelectric sensor. We found that the free decay rate of the deflected beam is linearly proportional to the vacuum pressure. This rapid response in pressure ranges demonstrates that the device has high degree of sensitivity. The proposed device represents a considerable advancement in the development of miniature full-range pressure gauges as well as the applicability of micro-electromechanical systems. International audience[Background] With an ever-growing ageing population, dementia is fast becoming the chronic disease of the 21st century. Elderly people affected with dementia progressively lose their autonomy as they encounter problems in their Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Hence, they need supervision and assistance from their family members or professional caregivers, which can often lead to underestimated psy- chological and financial stress for all parties. The use of Ambient Assistive Living (AAL) technologies aims to empower people with dementia and relieve the burden of their caregivers. The aim of this paper is to present the approach we have adopted to develop and deploy a system for ambient assistive living in an operating nursing home, and evaluate its performance and usability in real conditions. Based on this approach, we emphasise on the importance of deployments in real world settings as opposed to prototype testing in laboratories. [Methods] We chose to conduct this work in close partnership with end-users (dementia patients) and specialists in dementia care (professional caregivers). Our trial was conducted during a period of 14 months within three rooms in a nursing home in Singapore, and with the participation of eight dementia patients and two caregivers. A technical ambient assistive living solution, consisting of a set of sensors and devices controlled by a software platform, was deployed in the collaborating nursing home. The trial was preceded by a pre-deployment period to organise several observation sessions with dementia patients and focus group discussions with professional caregivers. A process of ground truth and system's log data gathering was also planned prior to the trial and a system performance evaluation was realised during the deployment period with the help of caregivers. An ethical approval was obtained prior to real life deployment of our solution. [Results] Patients' observations and discussions allowed us to gather a set of requirements that a system for elders with mild-dementia should fulfil. In fact, our deployment has exposed more concrete require- ments and problems that need to be addressed, and which cannot be identified in laboratory testing. Issues that were neither forecasted during the design phase nor during the laboratory testing surfaced during deployment, thus affecting the effectiveness of the proposed solution. Results of the sys- tem performance evaluation show the evolution of system precision and uptime over the deployment phases, while data analysis demonstrates the ability to provide early detection of the degradation of patients' conditions. A qualitative feedback was collected from caregivers and doctors and a set of lessons learned emerged from this deployment experience. [Conclusion] Lessons learned from this study were very useful for our research work and can serve as inspira- tion for developers and providers of assistive living services. They confirmed the importance of real deployment to evaluate assistive solutions especially with the involvement of professional caregivers. They also asserted the need for larger deployments. Larger deployments will allow to conduct surveys on assistive solutions social and health impact, even though they are time and manpower consuming during their first phases
